Modernization of the Mobile Network

As part of our continuous efforts to enhance our  mobile network, the 2G network will be phased out to provide you with the best mobile experience on 3G, 4G and 5G mobile networks.

The 2G network will be phased out by 31st December 2019. All 2G device users are urged to upgrade their devices and replace their SIM Cards ( if applicable) to support 3G / 4G network.

Benefits of the Modernization of the Mobile Network

Faster Speed

faster-speed

the latest mobile generation is 20,000 times faster than 2G.. That is why we are upgrading our mobile network: 2G is making room for 5G and future generations of the mobile network.

Performance

performance

Nowadays, only 0.1% of all data is being transmitted via 2G while 95% is via 4G. However, the old 2G technology takes up a large amount of network capacity, which we now need for the latest 5G mobile technology. This is the only way we will be able to meet the rapidly growing demands of our customers.

Quality

qaulity

You can really hear the difference between 2G and the new HD voice calls offered by the latest mobile generations. The difference is unbelievable, with high quality voice calls.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is 2G?
A: 2G was our first mobile network when we started in 1995. Users were only able to call and text on this network. Internet was also available but at extremely low speeds.

Q: Why are we phasing out 2G?
A: The world is changing and as more advanced mobile devices are on the market, telecom operators need to prepare themselves for the newer technologies such as 5G. To be able to offer a fast connection to all of these devices on our network, the 2G network will be switched off to release the radio frequencies for higher technologies such as 3G,4G & 5G.

Q: How do I know if I have a 2G device?
A: Only 2G device users will be receiving the notifications from Batelco.

Q: Why do I need a different device?
A: To stay connected on Batelco’s Network, you are required to purchase a new device that supports 3G & 4G. Otherwise your phone will no longer be connected once the 2G Network is switched off end of December 2019.

Q: Will Batelco offer a 3G/4G device?
A: Yes, Batelco will be soon offering a low cost 3G/4G compatible device only for the 2G device users. End of September 2019.

Q: Can I get a 3G/4G compatible device from a supplier other than Batelco?
