Batelco Donates $200,000 to Maldives following Crisis Situation

**Batelco supports humanitarian efforts via its sister Company Dhiraagu**

Batelco, as part of its CSR programme has supported humanitarian efforts in the Maldives, the home of its sister Company, Dhiraagu. The Maldives recently suffered a major disaster when a fire broke out in the Male’ Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) severely damaging the Generator units and disrupting fresh water supply to the residents living in its capital city Male’. The Government of the Maldives announced a national crisis situation following the disaster which happened on December 5th, 2014.

To support the immediate and urgent effort to rebuild the water plant, Batelco donated $200,000 to the cause. In grateful appreciation for Batelco’s efforts, a letter of thanks from President of the Maldives Abdulla Yameen has been presented to Batelco Chairman Shaikh Hamad bin Abdulla Al Khalifa by Dhiraagu Chairperson & Non-Executive Director Mr. Riluwan Shareef, who visited Batelco this week.

Shaikh Hamad said that as Male is the home of Batelco’s sister operation Dhiraagu, Batelco didn’t delay in reaching out to offer assistance to its leadership in order to support the rebuilding efforts.

“Such a gesture to provide substantial funds in such a crisis situation is in line with Batelco’s corporate social responsibility and meets with our commitment to support the Companies which are under the umbrella of Batelco Group,” he added.
